Ashley Judd - Ashley Judd

So you’re a world-renowned actress, a Broadway star, a graduate from Harvard and a global humanitarian. There’s nothing left to do, right? Wrong—if you’re Ashley Judd.

Behind Ashley Judd’s accolades and celebrity is her passion for public service. Since 2002, Ashley has served as an ambassador for PSI, traveling the world to explore the health and rights of girls and women. Most recently, Ashley was appointed as a UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador, working with the agency to raise awareness around the global issue of maternal morbidity. She’s a fearless advocate for the rights of women and girls, and frequently speaks publicly about her own experiences as a survivor of rape. In 2015, she was a pivotal part of Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn’s groundbreaking PBS documentary, “A Path Appears”, where Ashley traveled to Nashville to meet and understand the experiences of sex trafficking survivors.

One quick Google search for Ashley Judd brings up numerous photos with the activist donning the iconic “this is what a feminist looks like” shirt—a truly telling snapshot of her passion for equality. A frequent critic of sexual harassment and sexism in Hollywood, Ashley recognizes disparities at every level and dedicates her life to ending gender-based violence in every form.

And she’s just getting started. In August 2016, Ashley announced that she would pursue a PhD in public policy at the University of California, Berkeley. In her announcement, Ashley said she hopes to “do some good thinking, some rigorous research, and fill it with my typical heart and soul, and see how I can continue to do my little part to make the world a better place.”
