The Botswana Ministry of Local Government & Rural Development led the implementation of the VACS in 2015.

 

Botswana, with support from PEPFAR, is the first country to have included HIV testing. They launched their VACS report in December 2019.

Key highlights include:

 

9% of girls experienced sexual violence in childhood.

 

28% of girls experienced physical violence in childhood.

 

6% of girls and young women who experienced pressured or physically forced sex reported a resultant pregnancy.

 

Among girls who have experienced sexual violence, less than 18% of girls received help.

 

6% of boys experienced sexual violence in childhood.

 

43% of boys experienced physical violence in childhood.

 

Among boys who have experienced sexual violence, 3% of boys received help
