Tanzania Violence Against Children and Youth Survey (VACS) report 2011 (data collection 2009)


In 2009, the Government of Tanzania launched the Violence Against Children and Youth Survey (VACS), with technical assistance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as part of the Together for Girls partnership. The VACS measure multiple forms of violence against children and adolescents including sexual, physical, and emotional; they also provide important data on risk factors, protective factors, and consequences of violence. In 2011, the Government of Tanzania launched their VACS report with support from PEPFAR, CDC, UNICEF, and other partners.

  • Government: Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly, and Children, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Labour, Employment and Youth Development, the Prime Minister’s Office/Regional Administration and Local Government, the Tanzania Police Force, and National Bureau of Statistics.
  • Bilateral and multilateral organizations: Government of Canada, UNICEF, WHO, UNAIDS, UN Women, UNFPA, CDC Division of Violence Prevention, and USAID.
