Nigeria Violence Against Children and Youth Survey (VACS) report 2016 (data collection 2014)


In 2014, the Government of Nigeria launched the Violence Against Children and Youth Survey (VACS), with technical assistance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as part of the Together for Girls partnership. The VACS measure multiple forms of violence against children and adolescents including sexual, physical, and emotional; they also provide important data on risk factors, protective factors, and consequences of violence. In 2016, the Government of Nigeria launched their VACS report with support from PEPFAR, CDC, UNICEF, and other partners.

  • Government: National Population Commission, Federal and State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Federal Ministry of Education, Federal Ministry of Health, Federal Ministry of Justice, Nigerian Police Force, Nigeria Prisons Service, National Human Rights Commission, Ministry of Information, National Orientation Agency, Judiciary, National Agency for the Control of AIDS, National Agency for the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons, National Emergency Management Agency, and National Bureau of Statistics.
  • Bilateral and multilateral organizations: USAID, UNICEF, UNFPA, UN Women, WHO, UNODC, and CDC Division of Violence Prevention.
  • Non-government: Religious and traditional leaders, faith based groups, civil society organizations, and the media.
