Section 3: Analyzing VACS data

Section 3: Conclusions and takeaways

Welcome to Section 3: Conclusions and takeaways!

Jodie Pearlman, Research Fellow & PhD Candidate, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine

Jodie wraps up Section 3 with key takeaways on how to construct violence variables in the VACS data:

  • VACS are cross-sectional, nationally representative household surveys

  • VACS contain a range of health, violence and sociodemographic data

  • There are five key steps to constructing violence variables in the VACS: 1) population, 2) type of violence, 3) perpetrator, 4) timing, 5) numerator and denominator

  • You can create many different variables for physical, sexual and emotional violence, and school-related gender-based violence

This is the end of Section 3. We hope you’ll continue to Section 4, the last section of this course, in we will look at a range of ways VACS data have been used to inform program and policy action.

We welcome your feedback about this course. Please submit any feedback on Section 3 and on your learning journey so far.
