The intersection of sexual violence against girls and HIV fact sheet

Girls and young women in Sub-Saharan Africa experience high rates of sexual violence and are disproportionately affected by HIV. Data from the Violence Against Children and Youth Surveys (VACS) shows that experiencing sexual violence — both directly and indirectly — increases the risk of contracting HIV.
