Adverse childhood experiences, HIV and sexual risk behaviors in five sub-Saharan countries

As part of a Child Abuse and Neglect Journal special issue on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), this study uses VACS data from five sub-Saharan countries to identify associations between exposures to ACEs and sexual risk behaviors and HIV service utilization among young people.

It demonstrates that experiencing ACEs during childhood is associated with higher HIV risk behaviors in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) with unique differences between males and females.
